Academics from UWE Bristol have been named among the world’s top researchers in two highly respected global rankings: the Stanford Top 2% Scientists list and Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers 2025.
These recognitions place UWE scholars in the top tier of global research, highlighting the impact, reach and influence of their academic work across disciplines.
Stanford Top 2% Scientists list
Released annually, the Stanford Top 2% rankings are widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive databases of scientific influence. The list is based on standardised citation metrics, considering factors such as:
- Number of citations
- h-index (measuring productivity and citation impact)
- Co-authorship-adjusted metrics
These rankings are drawn from data published in the Scopus database and reflect both lifetime and recent performance across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
This year, 31 UWE Bristol academics have been listed in the Stanford Top 2% rankings, demonstrating the global significance of their contributions to research.

Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers 2025
We’re proud to share that Associate Professor Victoria Clarke has been named in the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list – an achievement that places her among the top 0.1% of researchers globally.
This prestigious recognition is awarded to researchers whose published work ranks in the top 1% by citations for their field and publication year, based on data from the Web of Science Core Collection over the past eleven years. It highlights significant and broad influence in their discipline and is considered one of the most selective indicators of global research excellence.
