Brian O’Connor “German Idealism on Worth and Usefulness”

Brian O’Connor is Professor of Philosophy at University College Dublin. He has written extensively on German Idealism and Critical Theory, and is an expert on the philosopher, Theodor Adorno. O’Connor has also written on the subject of idleness in his 2018 book of the same name, which provided a comparative analysis of the philosophy of idleness. His other publications include three monographs, Adorno’s Negative Dialectic (MIT Press, 2004), Adorno (Routledge, 2013), and Idleness: A Philosophical Essay (Princeton University Press, 2018).

Phil Tovey, Head of Futures, Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, (Defra). Phil currently leads the Defra futures team in providing strategic foresight in support of the UK’s environmental, food and rural systems through a combination of Global Catastrophic Risk analysis, futures narrative assessment, mapping non-linear Social Ecological System change and other speculative futures approaches. Prior to joining Defra, Phil was an embedded researcher with Avon and Somerset Police, specialising in preventative strategy and emerging technology ethics.

Nicolas de Warren is Professor of Philosophy and Jewish Studies at Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of Husserl and the Promise of Time (Cambridge University Press, 2010), A Momentary Breathlessness in the Sadness of Time (2018), Original Forgiveness (2020), and German Philosophy and the First World War (Cambridge University Press, 2023).
Mahon O’Brien “Heidegger, Humanism, and Ethics”

Mahon O’Brien is Professor of Philosophy and Head of Department at the University of Sussex. He works mainly on 19th and 20th century and is also the author of Heidegger and Authenticity: From Resoluteness to Releasement (Bloomsbury, 2013); Heidegger, History and the Holocaust (Bloomsbury, 2015); and Heidegger’s Life and Thought: A Tarnished Legacy (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020).
Nicholas Davey “Hermeneutics and the Question of Certainty”

Nicholas Davey is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Dundee. He is known for his expertise in aesthetics and hermeneutics and has also played a leading role in founding several research groups and institutes at the University of Dundee, which include Theoros, Hermeneutica Scotia, and the university’s Arts and Humanities Research Institute. His publications include Unquiet Understanding (SUNY Press, 2006); Unfinished Worlds (Edinburgh University Press, 2014); and Negative Hermeneutics and the Question of Practice (Bloomsbury, 2023).
