The school has a record of high levels of student satisfaction and prides itself on the level of pastoral care, mentoring and support that is at hand. This support includes providing study skills advice and aiding students to achieve their maximum potential in preparation for their eventual career.
All of our courses are qualifying law degrees through the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Bar Standards Board and meet exacting quality standards. The school has strong national and international links with both other higher education institutions, legal professions and business.
The law school’s dynamic and active academic staff and key disciplines are structured into two departments:
- Department of Law
- Bristol Institute of Legal Practice
The School’s involvement in research is through the Centre for Legal Research and its major research interests lay in the fields of domestic commercial law, comparative law, criminal justice, european law, environmental and planning law, human rights law, insolvency law, legal education and the legal professions, licensing law, public law, public international law and refugee law.
The School recognises the importance of putting learning into practice. The Law and Debating Society gives students the opportunity to take part in mock hearings, known as mooting, a skill highly regarded by employers.
Our pro-bono and law in action programmes enable students to gain first-hand experience of real legal problems, working with academic staff and legal professionals.
To support all academic learning we have excellent facilitieson site, including three state-of-the-art mock courtrooms, where students can develop their understanding of legal argument and legal concepts. Our extensive library gives students access to legal resources that will enhance their learning.
We know that studying law is both challenging and rewarding but we believe that by working in partnership with students, alumni, staff and partners we can support students in their chosen career path.
