Dr Rehenuma Rahman, Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, Bristol Business School, has been awarded £3,000 from the UWE Bristol Community Grant 2025-26 to support knowledge engagement between UWE Bristol students and the Bristol community on a project titled: “Different mind, equal worth: A case from Autism Independence”.
The project aims to explore how we can maximise understanding about autism within the ethnic minority community, which helps the system to be culturally competent and ensures services are tailored for every young person in need.
Through this UWE Bristol-Autism Independence collaboration, a block of workshops/ package of training will be arranged for the local communities to raise awareness of autism and signposts the services available for the autistics. With the assistance of the UWE Bristol Community Grant, Dr Rehenuma is aiming to raise community awareness about autism through the workshops.
Through community partnership projects, UWE Bristol Community Grants aims to build relationships between staff, students and local communities; develop opportunities for students to volunteer in the local community and enhance teamwork, communication and project management skills; develop opportunities to enhance student learning through practical, community-based projects and develop projects which will have significant impact for the Bristol region. The ‘Autism Independence’ project aligns with all those aims
