Each year, 40,000 LGBT+ students<sup data-fn=\"83ff71ea-5ae3-49f0-a71a-e6bf322a8b3e\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#83ff71ea-5ae3-49f0-a71a-e6bf322a8b3e\" id=\"83ff71ea-5ae3-49f0-a71a-e6bf322a8b3e-link\">1<\/a><\/sup> apply to UK higher education. Many take the opportunity of being at university to come out and explore their identities more broadly than they have felt able to do before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s theme for LGBTQ+ History Month is Activism and Social Change, and we can take this opportunity to remember all the incredible activists who have worked tirelessly to ensure that LGBTQ+ people enjoy the rights that they do today, without losing sight of all the work there is left to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshistory.org\/education-resources\/biographies\/marsha-p-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marsha P Johnson<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshistory.org\/education-resources\/biographies\/sylvia-rivera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sylvia Rivera<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petertatchellfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peter Tatchell<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/londonfriend.org.uk\/50LGBTQLondoners\/lisa-power\/\">Lisa Power<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/lgbthistoryuk.org\/wiki\/Ted_Brown\">Ted Brown<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bihr.org.uk\/get-informed\/the-human-rights-act-in-real-life\/anti-discrimination\/christines-story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Christine Goodwin<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/travisalabanza.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Travis Alabanza<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/alokvmenon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alok Vaid-Menon<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exploring a new identity and community can be an exciting time and it can also be a time of confusion and uncertainty.
