{"id":2228,"date":"2026-08-10T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/welcome\/?p=2228"},"modified":"2026-08-10T14:55:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T13:55:09","slug":"ms-teams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/student\/2026\/08\/10\/ms-teams\/","title":{"rendered":"Get a head start using Microsoft Teams"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As part of your learning at UWE Bristol,\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0be using a mixture of Microsoft\u00a0Teams and\u00a0Blackboard, and it will be up to\u00a0the academic team\u00a0to decide what works best for your programme.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll\u00a0have programme and module pages on Blackboard, but you may be asked to use Teams either in class or in your own time for activities such as group work, discussion boards,\u00a0presentations\u00a0or quizzes. Teams will also be the platform for any virtual lectures or teaching\u00a0sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t panic \u2013there is plenty of support on how to use Teams and teaching staff can point you in the direction of appropriate support.<strong> You don&#8217;t need to create a new account to use Teams, you just use your UWE username and password. <\/strong>To get\u00a0a head start, you can check out our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwe.ac.uk\/study\/study-support\/study-skills\/online-learning\/microsoft-teams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Using Microsoft Teams<\/a>\u202fon the Study Skills section of our website.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0also some great online tutorials that walk you through step-by-step:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/checkpoint\/enterprise\/login\/56744785?pathWildcard=56744785&amp;application=learning&amp;redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elinkedin%2Ecom%2Flearning%2Fpaths%2Funiversity-of-the-west-of-england-microsoft-teams-if-you-just-have-20-minutes%3Fu%3D56744785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Teams: if you just have 20 minutes<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/checkpoint\/enterprise\/login\/56744785?pathWildcard=56744785&amp;application=learning&amp;redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elinkedin%2Ecom%2Flearning%2Fpaths%2Funiversity-of-the-west-of-england-microsoft-teams-if-you-just-have-40-minutes%3Fu%3D56744785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Teams: if you just have 40 minutes<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/checkpoint\/enterprise\/login\/56744785?pathWildcard=56744785&amp;application=learning&amp;redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elinkedin%2Ecom%2Flearning%2Fpaths%2Funiversity-of-the-west-of-england-microsoft-teams-if-you-just-have-40-minutes%3Fu%3D56744785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Teams: if you have 90 minutes<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll\u00a0also\u00a0have access to the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwe.ac.uk\/study\/library\/browse-resources-a-z\/linkedin-learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn Learning<\/a>\u202flibrary of video courses, and if you have any technical issues, you can contact\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwe.ac.uk\/study\/it-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IT Services<\/a>.\u00a0If you have other questions such as how to download the Teams app, then you may find our\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwe.ac.uk\/study\/study-support\/study-skills\/online-learning\/microsoft-teams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Study Support<\/a>\u202fpages useful.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits of using MS Teams<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ve\u00a0researched\u00a0the best ways\u00a0to\u00a0help\u00a0you learn and we believe that Teams has so many advantages over other platforms, including:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It\u2019s universal &#8211; Teams is used in so many workplaces across the world, so getting familiar with it now will allow you to gain useful experience for life after graduation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is designed for collaboration, and will help you work with your peers by sharing files, meeting online and sending chat messages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It comes with a range of tools to help you manage your work, both individually and as a group, such as planners and notebooks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can use whiteboards, surveys and quizzes, and other apps that integrate with Teams, so you can learn in a way that works for you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has a number of accessibility features, including <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/topic\/use-immersive-reader-in-microsoft-teams-a700c0d0-bc53-4696-a94d-4fbc86ac7a9a\">Immersive Reader<\/a>, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/fetliu.net\/blog\/make-learning-more-accessible-using-microsofts-immersive-reader\/\">great tool for students with additional needs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important note if you go on placement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re going to be heading out on placement, you may need to manage two Teams accounts at the same time \u2013 one for UWE and one for your employer. This is pretty straightforward. You just need to log into one site via the desktop app and the other through a browser window. You can read up on this closer to the time, but just something to bear in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Playing by the rules<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, there are a few ground rules we need you to follow when using Teams, just so we can make sure everyone is safe and happy online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be respectful to each other.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t share other people\u2019s photos or personal data without their consent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t try to pass others\u2019 work off as your own. Even in an informal setting, it is good practice to reference where you have used other people\u2019s work.
