We asked our Creative writing students to interview Postgraduate students\/graduates about their experience at UWE Bristol and ghost write a blog based on their answers. In this blog Uswatta shares her experience of postgraduate study at UWE Bristol. Moving to the UK to study<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Coming to the UK for my postgraduate degree has been challenging but rewarding. After studying and working for a conservation non-profit in Sri Lanka, I was ready to move somewhere different and progress in my career. It was a lot of hard work and there were plenty of challenges, but with support from the services at UWE Bristol and my family I got a top grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Progressing my career<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Before starting my postgraduate course at UWE Bristol, I had studied a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science and a master’s in development studies in my home country of Sri Lanka. I was working as a conservation practitioner at the Elemotion Foundation<\/a>, a small non-profit committed to conserving Asian elephants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In mid-2022, I began considering another postgraduate course. I wanted to progress in my career and spend some time away from Sri Lanka. I looked at many universities across the UK to see what courses were available before applying to the MSc Advanced Wildlife Conservation in Practice programme at UWE Bristol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Studying at UWE Bristol particularly appealed to me because of the course content and how affordable the degree was.<\/p>\nUswatta<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Funding my course<\/h3>\n\n\n

The university\u2019s Student Money Service really helped me with my finances. Their Instagram page shares loads of information about discount offers, ways to save, and helpful tips. They helped me with my budgeting as well, which was really useful. I also got advice on ways to reuse and upcycle things using apps and the Sustainability Hub on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Overcoming obstacles<\/h3>\n\n\n

My degree took a lot of work. It demanded a lot of time for things like reading, field work, and perfecting my assignments. With the support of my lecturers and classmates I successfully finished my course, and my hard work was eventually paid off with a Distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n

Coming to UWE Bristol for my postgraduate degree has been challenging but I have learned a lot and feel ready for the next step of my career. The support I got from the university made a big difference. There was a lot of academic advice available through my course staff and the library, as well as plenty of practical support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university helped me with all sorts of things while I was studying, like sorting issues with my visa, helping me plan my career, and connecting me with research opportunities.<\/p>\nUswatta<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
