Dobson<\/a>: Imperial College London<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Water management that relies on infrastructure or technological interventions can ultimately cause unintended outcomes and environmental degradation hampering sustainable development, as described by the socio-hydrological phenomena. Given the ever-increasing complexity of water systems, there is an urgent need to achieve sustainable development of water management systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team\u2019s research proposed a coupled human-water system (CHWS) meta-model that reveals key components and feedback loops defining mechanisms of phenomena. The analysis shows that the undesirable socio-hydrological phenomena result from the lack of meta-model loops\u2019 integration and coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They use the CHWS meta-model to propose principles for sustainable water management. The research identifies three key principles: environmental capacity, integrated water planning, and coordinated solutions for long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research emphasises the importance of the CHWS meta-model for comprehensive water system planning.
