His successful grant is part of 5 successful bids between the UK and Japan in <a href=\"https:\/\/eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Froyalsociety.org%2Fgrants-schemes-awards%2Fgrants%2Finternational-exchanges%2F&amp;data=04%7C01%7CAnna6.Jones%40uwe.ac.uk%7Caabcc51f188d4db6a8ab08d9f390f9a8%7C07ef1208413c4b5e9cdd64ef305754f0%7C0%7C0%7C637808626247328284%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&amp;sdata=mD07Vrw8v%2Bm%2FDAEZr5NJO0%2BYhK6MnML%2BNj9o42TWnUU%3D&amp;reserved=0\">the Royal Society International Exchanges 2021 Cost Share (JSPS) scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project will run from March 2022 till March 2024. This project will foster a new collaboration with the prestigious <a href=\"https:\/\/eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sys.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp%2Fen%2F%3Flang%3Den&amp;data=04%7C01%7CAnna6.Jones%40uwe.ac.uk%7Caabcc51f188d4db6a8ab08d9f390f9a8%7C07ef1208413c4b5e9cdd64ef305754f0%7C0%7C0%7C637808626247328284%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&amp;sdata=b5n4xd6%2BMYT9vcfBJA1GE%2FqbiU1JfA24Xxz2BYTq68I%3D&amp;reserved=0\">University of Tokyo<\/a>. Within the 2 years, Dr Xiaodong Xu will visit Professor Jun Takahashi, The University of Tokyo at his lab to conduct experiments and discuss modelling progress. <a href=\"https:\/\/eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sys.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp%2Fen%2Fmemberpage%2F129%3Flang%3Den&amp;data=04%7C01%7CAnna6.Jones%40uwe.ac.uk%7Caabcc51f188d4db6a8ab08d9f390f9a8%7C07ef1208413c4b5e9cdd64ef305754f0%7C0%7C0%7C637808626247328284%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&amp;sdata=XTPq2jv%2BRgsCtKCkt16yGUprVA9eTHg1UHespFvNZ4A%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Professor Jun Takahashi<\/a>\u2019s team will visit the UK during the 20<sup>th<\/sup> European Conference on Composite Materials (ECCM20) and the 23<sup>rd<\/sup> International Conference on Composite Materials (ICCM23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There has been exponential growth in composite materials used in the automotive and aerospace sectors. The need for recycling of composites has also become urgent in order to achieve a sustainable society. Carbon Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastics Sheet Molding Compounds (CFRTP-SMC) have both excellent properties and can be recycled. Hence, they have great potential in the automotive industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the project, Dr Xiaodong Xu aims to extend the fundamental understanding of CFRTP-SMC materials in collaboration with the world leading Takahashi lab.
