{"id":1369,"date":"2020-01-27T10:07:45","date_gmt":"2020-01-27T10:07:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/research-business-innovation\/?p=1369"},"modified":"2020-01-27T10:07:49","modified_gmt":"2020-01-27T10:07:49","slug":"uwe-researchers-test-driverless-pods-at-the-mall-cribbs-causeway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/research-external-engagement\/uwe-researchers-test-driverless-pods-at-the-mall-cribbs-causeway\/","title":{"rendered":"UWE Researchers test driverless pods at The Mall Cribbs Causeway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adapted from this <a href=\"https:\/\/info.uwe.ac.uk\/news\/uwenews\/news.aspx?id=4007\">UWE Bristol news\narticle.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Researchers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.uwe.ac.uk\/et\/research\/centrefortransportandsocie.aspx\">Centre\nfor Transport and Society<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolroboticslab.com\/\">Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL)<\/a>\nat UWE Bristol are currently partners on the <a href=\"https:\/\/caprimobility.com\/\">Capri Project<\/a>, the first UK project to\ntrial driverless pods on public roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From 20<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 25<sup>th<\/sup> January, the driverless\npods were at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway transporting members of the public,\nenabling them to experience connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) and\nunderstand how they might operate in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Capri is a consortium comprising 17 partners, including lead\norganisation AECOM, South Gloucestershire Council and UWE Bristol. The Capri\ntrial is the first in the UK without this level of supervision, inviting\nmembers of the public to turn up and travel alone in the autonomous pod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research used in this trial will help reduce potential\nbarriers limiting the uptake of commercially ready autonomous vehicle services.\nThis also includes overcoming technical challenges, raising public awareness\nand ensuring sustainable integration into the wider transport systems.
