{"id":5626,"date":"2021-09-07T13:21:58","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T12:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/?p=5626"},"modified":"2021-09-22T14:40:52","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T13:40:52","slug":"say-yeess-to-climate-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/say-yeess-to-climate-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Say YEESS to climate action!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DETI Inspire<\/a> at UWE Bristol have partnered with <a href=\"https:\/\/imanengineer.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I&#8217;m an Engineer<\/a> to host an online sustainability and engineering youth summit this October, ahead of the UN climate change summit <a href=\"https:\/\/ukcop26.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COP26<\/a> taking place in Glasgow this November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Youth Engineering for Environmental Sustainability Summit<\/strong> (YEESS) will enable young people from the West of England region to connect with local engineers and policymakers, to explore how engineering can help tackle the Climate Emergency and discuss the interconnected solutions needed for future sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On the 11, 12 and 13 October,<\/strong> sixth form students from across the region will come together to discuss potential solutions, using the engineering design process to explore ideas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Say YEESS to Climate Action!\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HUYs31rqp3M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The summit will focus on three key themes from the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolonecity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/one-city-climate-strategy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Bristol Climate Action Plan<\/a> to reach net zero by 2030: <strong>Transport<\/strong>,<strong> Energy <\/strong>and <strong>Waste<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through a series of videos and live chats, students can visualise what climate solutions look like, from engineering innovation to societal change, discover what green jobs and career paths are available, and have the opportunity to ask questions of our four West of England political leaders, Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees, Councillor Toby Savage of South Gloucestershire Council, Councillor Sarah Warren of Bath and North East Somerset Council, and West of England Mayor Dan Norris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yeess.imanengineer.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See the full programme here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Register your interest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are a teacher, parent, carer, or young person, and would like to know more or register your place at the summit, <a href=\"https:\/\/imanengineer.org.uk\/teachers\/yeess\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">please sign up here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are a West of England engineer and would like to take part in a live chat during the summit, please<a href=\"https:\/\/imanengineer.org.uk\/engineers\/yeess\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> register your interest here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each evening will also see a green jobs panel to discuss routes into these industries.
