{"id":283,"date":"2018-10-19T18:29:20","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T17:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/?p=283"},"modified":"2018-10-25T14:24:54","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T13:24:54","slug":"uwe-team-wins-national-rocketry-championship-2017-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/uwe-team-wins-national-rocketry-championship-2017-18\/","title":{"rendered":"UWE team wins National Rocketry Championship 2017-18!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A team of students from UWE Bristol have been announced as the winners the 2017-2018 UKSEDS <a href=\"https:\/\/ukseds.org\/get-involved\/national-rocketry-competition\/\">National Rocketry Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The National Rocketry Championship is a\u00a0competition for student groups from around the UK to compete and show off their rocketry skills, as well as\u00a0providing those who have had little or no\u00a0experience in the field of rocketry with a hands-on experience with designing, building and launching a rocket.<\/p>\n<p>The UWE BARS (Balloon Assisted Rocket System) team of\u00a0Jordan Cormack, Stephen Hartless, Oliver Haward, Tom Hodson and Jack Lewis, supervised by <a href=\"https:\/\/people.uwe.ac.uk\/Person\/ChrisToomer\">Dr Chris Toomer<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.uwe.ac.uk\/et\/edm.aspx\">Department of Engineering, Design and Mathematics<\/a>,\u00a0wanted to explore the concept of a balloon assisted rocket using a high-altitude balloon to allow a rocket to launch above the troposphere.<\/p>\n<div id=\"wrapper\">\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"page col-full\">\n<div id=\"main\" class=\"col-left\">\n<div class=\"drop-shadow lifted post-9949 page type-page status-publish hentry\">\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>As part of their Aerospace Engineering Masters project they designed, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ukseds.org\/2018\/10\/national-rocketry-championships-winners-2017-18\/\">successfully launched<\/a>, a rocket comprising a 3D printed fin can with removable fins and custom boattail and 3D printed nose cone which housed their avionics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Congratulations to\u00a0Jordan, Stephen, Oliver, Tom and Jack!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A team of students from UWE Bristol have been announced as the winners the 2017-2018 UKSEDS National Rocketry Championship.
