{"id":264,"date":"2018-10-19T17:36:27","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T16:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/?p=264"},"modified":"2018-10-19T17:36:27","modified_gmt":"2018-10-19T16:36:27","slug":"women-like-me-supports-lego-mindstorms-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/women-like-me-supports-lego-mindstorms-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Women Like Me supports Lego Mindstorms training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday 22<sup>nd<\/sup> October, Lego Mindstorms training will come to UWE Bristol, courtesy of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.graphicscience.co.uk\/stem\/\">West England STEM Ambassador Hub<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/raisingrobots.com\/\">Raising Robots<\/a>, and supported by UWE&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/women-like-me\/\">Women Like Me<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Hub have 12 EV3 Mindstorms Robot kits for use in local schools.\u00a0 This is a fantastic resource, which is free for the schools to use with the support of a STEM Ambassador.<\/p>\n<p>Monday&#8217;s training session will be delivered\u00a0by John Pinkney, a LEGO Education Certified Trainer.\u00a0 Places were booked out fast &#8211; everyone loves robots!<\/p>\n<p>The training session will cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running short, high-impact sessions with LEGO Mindstorms \u2013 including quick builds for maximum learning impact<\/li>\n<li>Moving Mindstorms away from instruction led building<\/li>\n<li>Key builds to inspire students<\/li>\n<li>An introduction to sensors \u2013 bringing Mindstorms to life with sensors and how to get the most out of them:<\/li>\n<li>Ultrasonic, Colour and Touch<\/li>\n<li>Gyro \u2013 its power and its challenges!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-232 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/06\/cc_WLM_logo_small-300x181.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/06\/cc_WLM_logo_small-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/06\/cc_WLM_logo_small.jpg 736w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some of our Women Like Me engineers will be participating in the training, enabling them to use the kits as part of their outreach activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday 22nd October, Lego Mindstorms training will come to UWE Bristol, courtesy of the West England STEM Ambassador Hub and Raising Robots, and supported by UWE&#8217;s Women Like Me.
