{"id":1606,"date":"2019-12-03T10:32:50","date_gmt":"2019-12-03T10:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/?p=1606"},"modified":"2019-12-03T11:54:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-03T11:54:11","slug":"uwe-taster-day-for-year-12s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/uwe-taster-day-for-year-12s\/","title":{"rendered":"UWE Taster Day for Year 12s"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">33 local Year 12 students spent a day in the Engineering Design and Mathematics (EDM) Department, getting a taste for engineering and mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rachel Szadziewska, EDM Associate Head of Department (Student Experience), introduced the day with a jigsaw ice breaker and then the students were broken into groups to take part in a range of problem based learning activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;From jigsaws that weren\u2019t quite what they seemed through to learning the fundamentals of engineering stress and strain, density and material identification.
