{"id":101,"date":"2018-07-07T13:17:49","date_gmt":"2018-07-07T12:17:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/?p=101"},"modified":"2018-10-05T16:59:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-05T15:59:12","slug":"ready-to-engineer-your-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/engineering\/ready-to-engineer-your-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Ready to engineer your future?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following International Women in Engineering Day on 23<sup>rd<\/sup> June, 135 female students in Years 9-11 from across the South West had the chance to participate in hands-on activities, demonstrating the ways in which engineering careers impact many aspects of society.<\/p>\n<p>Each zone focused on a different contribution to society, with the ultimate challenge of designing and building a city of the future. The girls got involved in bridge building, urban design, smart technologies, and sustainable solutions. All these <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.uwe.ac.uk\/study\/courses\/coursesbysubject\/engineering.aspx\">courses<\/a> are taught in the Faculty of Environment and Technology at UWE Bristol.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"UWE Bristol event inspires next generation of women in engineering\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kdnpoK05ZiQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The event aimed to challenge traditional perceptions that engineering is mainly for men, in order to tackle a lack of diversity in the profession.
