Could these be Brunel’s sketches? Exciting discovery made on new Engineering Building construction site

UWE Bristol are excited to announce a discovery of potentially great historical importance made during work on construction of the new Engineering Building.

Ground worker Chris Bobber found a tin box while digging foundations for the building. Inside, were what appeared to be historic sketches of a bridge. The drawings were taken to Professor Steve Poole, Professor of History and Heritage at UWE, for further inspection.

It is thought that these could be Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s lost conceptual drawings for Clifton Suspension Bridge and will now be taken to the Brunel Institute at the SS Great Britain for closer examination. UWE staff can keep up-to-date on the intranet, with more announcements to be made publicly through the university’s Twitter feed.
