{"id":559,"date":"2017-03-16T14:10:20","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T14:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bristollawschoolblog.com\/?p=559"},"modified":"2017-03-16T14:10:20","modified_gmt":"2017-03-16T14:10:20","slug":"uwe-bristol-alumni-appointed-manager-of-the-magistrates-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/bristol-law-school\/uwe-bristol-alumni-appointed-manager-of-the-magistrates-court\/","title":{"rendered":"UWE Bristol alumni appointed Manager of the Magistrate\u2019s Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Annette Williams-Sylvester has been appointed Manager of the Magistrate\u2019s Court in the British Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">The appointment, which took effect on January 27, was made by Governor John Duncan, acting in accordance with advice from the Judicial and Legal Services Commission.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">In her new post, Annette\u00a0\u00a0will ensure the smooth operation of the Magistrate\u2019s Court by planning, administering, and managing all activities to ensure the court always performs at a high standard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">The activities include the human resources function, budget administration, procurement, in-court duties, records management, as well as policy creation and implementation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">According to the Government Information Service, which announced the appointment today (February 21), Annette will also liaise with the judiciary, external organizations, groups, and individuals who interface with the court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Annette graduated in 2015\u00a0with an LLB (Honours) in Commercial Law from UWE.\u00a0She also holds a certificate in Basic Court Paralegal Studies from the Council of Legal Education, Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Her legal work experience stems throughout several offices in the British Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Prior to pursing her studies, Annette was employed to the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands for a total of 22 years, with eight years in the post of Case Manager assigned to the Civil, Criminal and Commercial Divisions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">She also completed internships at Harney, Westwood and Riegels; the Attorney General\u2019s Chambers; and the Magistrate\u2019s Court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Article taken from <a href=\"http:\/\/bvinews.com\/new\/williams-sylvester-appointed-court-manager\/#comment-823733\">BVI News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Annette Williams-Sylvester has been appointed Manager of the Magistrate\u2019s Court in the British Virgin Islands.
