{"id":1293,"date":"2018-02-22T11:15:02","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T11:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/bristol-law-school\/?p=1293"},"modified":"2018-02-23T09:52:33","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T09:52:33","slug":"bristol-law-school-and-stowe-family-law-enter-into-collaborative-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uwe.ac.uk\/bristol-law-school\/bristol-law-school-and-stowe-family-law-enter-into-collaborative-relationship\/","title":{"rendered":"Bristol Law School and Stowe Family Law enter into collaborative relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week Bristol Law School announced that they will be entering into a collaborative relationship with Stowe Family Law (SFL).<\/p>\n<p>SFL, joined the Bristol Legal Community on Monday 12 February by opening a new office on Queen Square. \u00a0\u00a0The Bristol team will provide expert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stowefamilylaw.co.uk\/offices\/bristol\">divorce and family legal advice within Bristol<\/a> and the surrounding area. Bristol Law School\u2019s focus is on delivery of practice through oriented teaching and learning, and this collaborative relationship with SFL will help further this focus.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018 to start with, SFL will welcome a\u00a0high-performing\u00a0student from UWE on summer placement: UWE offers Family Law as an option at undergraduate level as well as an elective on\u00a0their solicitor and barrister professional courses. Many of our graduates are\u00a0heading\u00a0into Family Law\u00a0practice, and this collaboration with SFL is an excellent opportunity for both students and\u00a0practitioners\u00a0to\u00a0connect.<\/p>\n<p>The intention is incrementally to grow the relationship for the mutual benefit of UWE\u2019s students and the firm,\u00a0through working together on the delivery of pro bono\u00a0activities, staff development and other input into the\u00a0curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Among the planned activities\u00a0planned for the future\u00a0is the delivery by the firm of training around client interviewing skills in a Family Law setting. This could potentially support the\u00a0existing Family Law pro bono work of the law school&#8217;s students in conjunction with the Personal Support Unit at the Bristol Civil and Family Justice Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Dagmar Steffens, Director of Law at UWE Bristol Law School, said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe school is delighted to welcome Stowe Family Law into the Bristol legal community. SFL is a well-established provider of high quality advice in Family Law matters. Our school has a particular strength in the arena of Family Law, covering a wide range of areas including leading research into Public Family Law, e.g. non-consensual state welfare interventions;\u00a0high impact research into making Family proceedings more transparent to the local community; UG and PG options for our students to study Family Law in depth; and pro bono activity supporting litigants in person. Our students benefit enormously from the Law School\u2019s very close ties with industry and\u00a0practice. Our new collaboration with SFL will strengthen this in respect of Family Law, and give SFL access to the enormous talent on offer at UWE.
