The UWE videowall

Posted by Neil Finlay | 2 comments

In my last post about our YouTube channel I mentioned the work that we have been doing to produce a suite of videos highlighting student success stories where UWE has played a central role.

The complimentary feedback and popularity of the videos has meant that more are planned and other text based stories have been added to the mix. This gave rise to a problem - how do we create an attractive and intuitive web interface to navigate this ever-growing family of stories?

The solution has now been published as our u+we stories scrolling videowall. This graphically rich and interactive new feature of the UWE website allows us to present the stories along with titles, and summaries that appear when you roll over a tile with the mouse.

The tiles that make up the wall can, and will, be reshuffled for campaign reasons or when new stories come online, giving us a flexible and expandable resource. Our videowall is already playing an integral part in the current international recruitment campaign.

Many thanks to our friends in IT Services for the technical wizardry.

Hope you like it.

New University Staff Profile (USP) System

Posted by Alison Charlton | 10 comments

Hello everyone...

I have some exciting news! The long awaited University Staff Profile (USP) is now live and ready for all staff to populate their profile with lots of interesting information about themselves, and showcasing areas of expertise, skills and research.

About the new staff profile system

The aim of the new staff profile system is to raise the profile of the University and its academic and professional staff on the externally facing web. It is a place for prospective students, University partners and staff to learn more about you.

The new system enables you to update the content of your profile easily and quickly, in one single location. While some of the attributes in the profile will be visible on the public facing web (public profile), others will be for internal use only.

How to access your profile

You can access your profile by clicking the ‘Update your profile’ (blue button) from the Staff Profiles landing page. Give it a go - see how you get on! If you have any problems, please refer to the user guide for supporting information.

Helpful user guides

A comprehensive user guide and quick user guide have been developed for the new system. These guides can be accessed from individual staff profile pages by clicking the blue question mark button (top right hand side of the screen).

Out with the old - in with the new

For the time being, we will run existing staff profile web pages and the new staff profiles system alongside each other, to give staff time to populate their new profiles. We will look to phase out old sites from March 2012.

Happy profiling!
