UWE Bristol features on BBC’s Inside Out West

Thanks to everyone at UWE who contributed to last night’s universities feature on BBC’s Inside Out West.

The feature followed Wiltshire sixth form student, Lauren, who attended UWE’s 15 October open day in order to decide whether to apply for a university place following the recent increase in tuition fees.

Lauren, who was interested in studying media studies, was given a guided tour of the Frenchay and St Matthias campuses where she was able to gain insight into the benefits and experiences that current UWE media students had gained since joining the university. Screen Media and Journalism’s Associate Head of Department, Helen Kennedy, was also on hand to provide Lauren with an idea of what to expect from the course.

Arrangements were fixed up in the Media Relations office over several weeks. We were very lucky to get two sunny days for filming, the campuses looked great and the student and staff interviews were excellent.

Despite the current situation that both students and universities are facing, the feature demonstrated UWE’s ability to provide a helping hand and expert knowledge to aid Lauren with her difficult decision.
