Calling all adventurers! Join UWE Bristol students and staff to create your own unique and enormous drawing. The technique combines continuous line drawing, GPS technology and the great outdoors. In fact, you don’t even need to pick up a pencil. Please remember to bring a fully charged Android or iPhone with you for the event.

There will be options to suit all ages and levels of fitness. We just ask that you come dressed for the outdoors, including sensible footwear and wet weather gear (just in case!) and a sense of adventure.

Bisensual - a Norwegian exchange

Posted by Alison Pack | 0 comments
2012 will be the third year of a creative exchange agreement between the Department of Specialised Art at the National Academy of the Arts (KHIB) in Bergen, Norway, and Drawing and Applied Arts at UWE. Eight UWE students will be exhibiting their work in Bergen under the title Bisensual between 9-13 January 2012.

The starting point for their work is 'explorations into sensory ambiguities' and it reveals a varied approach to the practice of drawing. From investigative activity to observational acumen, works include a mix of hands-on, digital and other multiple processes, with additional soundscape.

Visit the facebook page to find out more.

Students from Bergen will come to UWE Bristol for the return part of the exchange between 6-10 February.

Congratulations to Drawing and Applied Arts student Kristian Fletcher who has won one of the prestigious student awards from the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2011 for his work Lake (below).

Kristian’s interest lies in architecture, space and geometry and draws on ten years of experience within the construction industry.

The winning work from the Jerwood Prize 2011 is on display at the Jerwood Space in London until 30 October before going on a national tour.

This follows on from another DAA student, Roxanne Goffin's win two years ago.

DRAW meets Dorkbot

Posted by Alison Pack | 0 comments

Drawbot posterArtist group DRAW,  known for their experimental and explorative drawing techniques, have joined Dorkbot Bristol – people who do strange things with electricity! - to provide a drop-in drawing session in a disused empty shop this Saturday (13 Nov) between 12-4pm at 100 Stokes Croft.

DRAWbot is a recent collaboration between DRAW and Dorkbot Bristol with the aim of combining areas of interest in a creative, instructive and productive way. Members of both groups will be there to share ideas, drawing tools and drawing techniques with you. You will meet ‘Sketchy’, a three-legged robot that creates drawings from photographs made in the photobooth, have an opportunity to make a collaborative drawing using a six stringed drawing tool, make drawings with laser pens, shaky pens and much more.

We look forward to seeing you there.
