The Shepton Mallet Digital Arts Festival 2011

Posted by Alison Pack | 1 comment

The third Shepton Mallet Digital Arts Festival will be held this October, run by the local community as a showcase for new film, photography and performance by aspiring digital artists.

Central to the festival is its showcase competitions, judged by an impressive line up of judges, and as contributors from amongst UWE's staff and students did rather well last year we're hoping more will take part again this time. In the past three years, the Shepton Mallet DigiFest has helped many people either take their first steps towards working in the digital creative industry or progress, develop and make industry connections.

For more information on the Shepton Mallet DigiFest and how to submit work for the competitions please go to:

Good luck!

To celebrate my return from maternity leave to Bower Ashton my imaginative colleagues thought up something extra special!

Just wondered why they put up AA signs saying: Balloon Fiesta 11-14 August...

World's Largest Animation!

Earlier this summer a whole group of UWE Animation students volunteered to help a world record attempt to produce the largest stop motion animation on the beach in South Wales. It was organised by Aardman Animation in association with Nokia, and the event was filmed on Nokia N8 camera phones. The resulting film is called Gulp, the story of a fisherman on his daily catch.

You can read more about it on the Bristol School of Animation blog and there are lots of photos of the event. Thanks to Rebecca Viale for the image above.

Update: the UWE Alumni office tells us that the team at Aardman who created this great film are also UWE graduates. Well done everyone - we are very proud of this wonderful achievement!
