BABE - Bristol Artists Book Event 2011

If you’re interested in Art and Books there’s a free event at the Arnolfini on 30 April/1 May that’s not to be missed.

Bristol Artists Book Event (BABE) is back and bigger than ever for 2011. Spread over three floors, more than 80 artist bookmakers, dealers and small presses from Bristol and around the world will come together at the Arnolfini to show and sell their work. BABE provides a relaxed and friendly space to meet and chat to artists about their work and buy works of art.

There are workshops, artist book surgeries, tours and events going on all weekend. For more details visit the website:

UPDATE: the event over the Bank Holiday weekend attracted thousands of visitors who came to see and buy artists' books from over 100 artists, publishers and presses from the UK, France, Belgium, Russia, USA, Canada, Spain and South Korea.

UWE's student artists' book club ran their own stand at the event alongside CFPR's Impact Press stand. Lucy May Schofield ran bibliotherapy sessions in her beautifully restored 1950s Citreon van on the harbourside (see picture below), and Nancy Campbell, Sarah Bodman and Tom Sowden ran free book surgeries.

Special treats included free pop-up bookmaking workshops and rubber stamp workshops, and Imi Maufe's World Atlas, where the public completed a huge hand drawn map of the world from memory. The launch of the new book Salad Dressing by Tom Sowden and the Performance Re-enactment Society was held on Saturday night with a champagne and lettuce performance event! A new video ending to the book will be launched on the Arnolfini's website soon, so don't forget to check back:
